POLICE COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before Mr C. C. Kettle, SAL) The Drunkards—Percy Bosworth, a second offender, was fined 10/- and costs, and promised to abstain from excessive drinking in future. John Brown was convicted and prohibited for 12 months. Three first offenders were fined 5/- and costs, or 24 hours' imprisonment. George Heighway, a prohibited man, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, his Worship saying that it was in the accused's best interests that he should be kept away from drink. Fredk. Orren, -who had been in custody for some time, was convicted and discharged. A similar course was adopted in the ease of Thos. McDonald. Eemanded—James Albert North was remanded until Monday on his awn application, the charge against him being that he stole £5 belonging to John Wells. Stolen Fish —A charge of stealing tkrec schnapper belong to Sanford and Co. was preferred against William Mackay and Henry Tulley. Sub-Inspector Gordon said the accused were seen by one of the employees, and were surrounded and captured. Maekay took the fish and handed them to Tulley, wh.o was waij£ ing outside. His Worship said the only excuse that could be urged by the men was that they were hungry and wanted something to eat. Mackay, who had been previously convicted, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment and Tulley to seven days.
