MISS KELLERMAN'S SWIMMING FEAT.
Miss Annette S.ellermau made a successful attempt to lower the world's mile record for lady swimmers at the Devcnshire Park Baths, Eastbourne, last Friday evening, writes our London eorre, spondent on September 22. Swimming strongly she completed the distance in 33 minutes 21f seconds, apd beat the previous best time by over _ minutes. The Devonshire Park Baths are 52 yards long, so the Australian lady had the advantage of 33 turns.
Cecil Healy was the bright particular star at the Zephyr S.C. annual gala held last Monday. For his benefit the proramme included a 120 yards' scratch race in which the Australian made an attempt to beat the world's record of 1 mm: Msec, which stands to bis own credit. Healy swam grandly, and of course beat his opponents very easily, but time proved his master, for be failed to do better than limn. 14 4-ss_c. _.iie bath in which he did this performance is 30 yards long.
On Tuesday Healy gave an exhibition 116 yards (4 lengths) swim at the Star A.C. gala at Kensington baths, and paeeu by three members of the club, put up a really splendid performance. He covered his first length (29 yards) in 14 sees.- 58 yards in 30secs., 87 yards in 49 sees., and the full distance in 1 mm. 9 3-ssees., which is practically equal to .mm. 12secs. for 120 yards, and raised, hopfes that Healy would succeed 'in breaking his own world's record for that distance at the Petrel B.C. entertainment at the Lambeth Bathe, whidj took place last night. He was advertised to make the attempt, but for some reason or other contented himself pith giving tiie spectators a lesson in the "crawl" stroke and an exhibition of a couple of lengths fast swimming.
