THE GOLDFIELDS.

I WAIOTAHL The following notice was forwarded by the secretary of the Waiotabi Gold Mining Coy. to the chairman of tbe Auckland Stock Exchange, and posted on the board to-day:—"By virtue of authortiy contained in the special resolution passed by the shareholders of this Coy, the Directors have this day divided up the existing shares of 6/ each, of which 5/ per share is paid up, into four shares of 1/6 each, of which the sum of 1/3 shall be credited as "paid U P-". s brings up the number bf shares in the Waiotabi Company to 240.000. OMAHU. The directors of the Omahu Mine have decided to call the shareholders together next week for .the purpose of considering the position of affairs, as the results of the crushings were disappointing, and so contrary to the anticipations baaed upon returns obtained from parcels of ore treated at Thames School of Mines, and by Messrs Tilsley with their small battery. ,A comparison of the assay values with the returns shows a loss 6f 19 per cent on the slimes It is considered that the addition of -two slime vats to the plant would save this 19 per cent, and give a total extraction of 85 per cent. The cost of working under present conditions, with water power, is about 21/ per ton, including office and all expenses, as the reef lies horizontally, and being of a ruble nature, no explosives are used. There appears a reasonable prospect of making this a payable property, if tbe present value of the ore is maintained, by the addition of another 5 head of stamps, an increase in the number of slime vats, and a cheap power plant. At a rough estimate these aditions would oust about £1000, and with this extra plant the total cost of treatment should not exceed 15/ per ton. MINERALS, LIMITED. The manager reports that the wash-up for the fortnight ending the 16th inst,, yielded 13ozs. ol\ alluvial gold from 84 loads, disposed of .for £53 13/9. He has now completed tho unwatering of the east drive, where gond gold was discovered, and commenced blocking out. Owing to poor prospects in the South drive, the face there has been 'abandoned. OLD HATJRAKI. COROMANDBL, tbis day. Two parties of tributers in tl?is mine have just completed crushings at the Schooi of Mines battery. Messrs. Moorei and Senior treated 1% tons of ore for a yield of 20ozs 4dwts of gold, valued at £56 6/. and Messrs. Blackmore obtained 4ozs Sdwts Worth from 1 ton of ore, valued at £13 6/A MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Victoria.—Quartz Is at the Na 4 leve' crosscut all the width of the face, but what it is or which way it is running It Is impossible to say at present, it appears to be going pretty well with the drive, and Is showing a little bright mineral in places. The manager hopes to be in a position to tell more about this reef later on. According to Jn-tructians received from Mr R. C Carr, director, a ten-load trial crushing from the Victoria reef above the "So. 3 level will be made. The quartz lonics about the same as the last six loads broken out', there being a little mineral in the hangingwall portion, bnt no gold has been seen yet. Two mon have been started to drive .seaward to intersect the Junction of the sixth and" seventh reef at No. 4 level.
