MELBOURNE, August 17. The Federal Exrase of Representatives has further modified tbe spirit duties by reducing the excise duties, practically 1/ on all items, to bring them into conformity with the Customs duties. The difficulty in regard to the new spirit duties so far as the regulation that spirit must have been two years in bond has been removed, suspension for the present being granted, and there is a rush to take spirit out of bond. The revenue is benefiting to the extent of £7400. The difference between the new duties at first fixed and afterwards reduced by Pariiaj ment is to be refunded as far as possibla. | In the same House the Copyright Am- | endment Bill was introduced.
