CAMBRIDGE TROUBLES.
A PROBABLE COURT CASE. L | ■ ■ • •. .. .' i FARMERS AND THE NEW SALE* YARDS. j (By Telegraph—Own CorresponimtJi •'■& .. ... « CAMBRIDGE, this day. 3 Borough matters seem to be more mix* ed than ever, and a crisis is approaching. It is expected to culminate to-mor-row in a Court case arising out' of at lively altercation between the Mayor (Mr Buckland) and Councillor Clarke, at a meeting held on the loth ult. Great interest is being taken in the case, and doubtless there will be a record attendance in Court. Nothing has been said hitherto, in the hope that it would not be necessary to drag the dispute before the public, but feeling is so high that neither side would approach the other, and so the case is to go on.
Farmers do not approve of the place where the borough saleyards are being put, and have decided to form a co-opera* tive company to erect yards of their own at Cambridge West, just opposite! the end of the high level bridge about to be erected, and only about a quarter the distance to the new borough yards, A canvass for shares was started yesterday afternoon, and 400 Yvere disposed of at once. Timber for the yards has been ordered. From what I can learn, I believe if there is any trouble with tha auctioneers about selling in these yard* the farmers trill employ an auctioneer of their own. This is in consequence of a report that two leading firms have given a Yvritten undertaking to sell in the borough yards. Altogether matter* here are in a deplorable state, the con* tinued fighting doing much harm t<f business and to the place generally. ■-*•,-
