LAKE TORRENS MURDER.

ADELAIDE, August 15.

The draining of Torrens Lake has resulted in the finding of the missing portion of the body of Natella's wife.

LADIES' GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received 10.12 a-m.) SYDNEY, this day. The ladies' golf championship of New South Wales has been won by Miss Wray, who scored 314, defeating Miss Mort, with 315.

SPIRIT DUTY.

Received 10-30 a-m. MELBOURNE, this day. The House of Representatives is adverse to the reception of the spirit duties, and this resulted in Mr Quick carrying by 34 to 18 a vote against the Government, and reducing the duty from 15/ to 14/. This led to the Government submitting revised grading duties ranging from 10/ to 14/.

MELBOURNE, August 15. The Minister for Lands (Mr. Murray) has forwarded to the Premier (Mr. Bent) bis official resignation. HORSES FROM NEW ZEALAND ' SYDNEY, August 15. The horses Shipped from New Zealand by the steamer Wimmera have landed in good condition. i

SYDNEY TRAMWAY INQUIRY.

At the inquiry into the grievances of tie tramway employees to-day Mr. Holman opened the case for the men. He dealt with the system of secret supervision- A number of officers were employed to report On the conduct of the men when on duty, and reported many matters trivial in themselves, but in the aggregate sufficient to cause general discontent. These reports resulted in the reduction of annual good conduct holidays, and caused postponement of increments. The men were not confronted with their accusers.
