MANUKAU STEAM SHIPPING COMPANY.
FINAL MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS
The final meeting of shareholders in the Manukau Steam Shipping Company was held at tho Public Hall, Onehunga, yesterday afternoon. Mr E. H. Potter (managing director) occupied the chair. Messrs Grey, Caven, Albrecht, and A. M. Barrihall, directors, were present, and a representative attendance of shareholders. ■ The chairman moved—(l) "That the company be wound up voluntarily, under the provisions of the Companies Act, 1903"; (2) "That MessTS X H. Potter and A. J. Ehtrican be, and are hereby appointed, liquidators fos the purpose of such winding up." Seconded by Mr Grey and carried unanimously. Mr Geddes moved "That the remuneration of the liquidators be such reasonable sum as can be allowed out of the moneys to be paid by the Northern Steamship Company,, under clause 3 of the agreement of sale with such company, after satisfying all other claims and costs .against such moneys." This motion was carried. , , Mr D. W. Grey said he wished to thank the shareholders for the loyal support [ they had always accorded him in connection with the work of the company. Mr Caldwell moved, "That the shareholders express their appreciation of Mr Grey's services, and place on record the able manner in which he has conducted the company's affairs, and also for the satisfactory manner in which he has conducted the sale to the Northern Steamship Co." The motion was seconded by Mr Evans and carried. Mr Grey, in 'responding, said he regarded their vote of appreciation as highly as if they had presented him with £ 1000 —although he was not a rich man. He had always done his duty to the best of his ability. He thought their thanks was also due to the managing director (Mr Potter), as it was owing to his good generalship that so satisfactory a sale had come about. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr Potter for his services on the motion, of Messrs" Grey and Albrecht. The chairman, in thanking the shareholders for their vote, said they had worked to dispose of the company's assets at a valuation of 20/ in the £, and had succeeded. Their affairs were now in the hands of a strong company. He referred to the prospects of Waiuku and Awhitu. He said he could not say much about the railway they -were agitating for, but he thought they should stick out for a Government grant to dredge the creek, and they would find it assist, them materially.
