(From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Saturday? Mr F. Mander. 31.HK., laid the foundation stone of the new Wesleyan Methodist I Church. There was a fair attendance of I friends. Previous to askins Mr Mander to j perform the ceremony the P.ev. Mr Reid, | tvho has charge of this circuit, gave a brief historical resume of the work of the church since its establishment in this district. After laving the stone Mr Mander in a brief address acknowledged the honour conferred upon him. The trustees presented Mr Mander with a polished puriri mallet, on which was mounted a silver plate inscribed, "Presented to Mr F. Mander, M.H.R.. by the trustees of the WhangareMethodist Church, on the occasion of the laying of the fonndatioit&stone of the Methodist Church. Juno 14. 1906." The seooud ronnd of the Whang-are! Hockey Club Association's matches was commenced on Thursday, when the Pirates defeated the Hula Club by ?, points to 1. The Kerlkeri Club claim a win by defauit from the West End. A football match was arranged between the North Wcsd and Veterans, the proceeds to be devoted to the Hospital funds. The match, after an interesting frame, resulted in the defeat of the Veterans by 9 points to 6. A number of gentlemen have started a roller skating club. The opening night took place on Thursday, when about 50 persons attended, and an enjoyable evening was spent. The Whangarei Brass Band was In attendance, and enlivened the proceedings with 6ome excellent selections. ' A number of gentlemeu representing the 1 County and Boroueh Councils, Chamber of Commerce, and other public bodies drove out to the new ferro-eoncrete bridge in the Otßika-road on Fridny, with the object of witnessing the openimr of the bridffe. The contractor welcomed the visitors. The new hrid.ee was thoronrrhly inspected by those present, and its opening was toasted in the n«ii.nl manner. This hrld-e is the first erected of Vnrth of Auckland. It is of n substantial nature, and promises r io*»«- l*fe.
