THE CRICKET DISPUTE.
Better Prospects of Settlement. SYDNEY, June 18. Sir W. J. Lyne, after conferring with Major Wardill, of the Melbourne Cricket Club, had a conference to-day with the trustees of the Sydney Cricket Ground. It is understood that he intimated that the Melbourne Club preferred to cancel the agreement with the New South Wales players if the association would remove their suspension. The club also, he said, was desirous of co-operating with other cricketing bodies with a view to securing the visit of an English team. Sir W. J. Lyne to-night is attending a meeting of the association, at which the proposal is being discussed, but th? result is not yet known. (Received 9.54 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Sir W. Lyne has explained that two members of the Melbourne Cricket Club told him that the club would do almost anything to bring about a settlement, but that it must take place within four days. The Cricket Association, after discussion, resolved that any proposition from the Melbourne Club must be forwarded through the Cricket Association.
