THE MEAT SENSATION.
Inspection Bill Strengthened. NEW YORK, June 18. President Roosevelt now admits that Mr. Wadsworth's Meat Inspection Bill permits of the official inspection of meat at any time. There are indications that the packers are preparing to agree to amendments in the bill assuring the rigid inspection which President Roosevelt desires. This is largely due to the energetic protests of the British consumers. SYDNEY, June 18. As an outcome of the Chicago meat scandals, the Premier has obtained a report from the chief Government medical officer showing that the system of inspection in the meat trade at Sydney is excellent.
(Received 8.43 a,m.) LONDON, June 18. Dr. Albert Gresswell, of Melbourne, in a letter to "The Times," declares that the safeguards embodied in the Exported Products Act of the State render Victorian tinned meats most thoroughly reliable.
