THE AMBULANCE.
The much maligned ambulance wt| •" discussed at the meeting of the' Auckland Hospital Board yesterday afternoon. Mr. W. R Bloomfield asked wljafc was the present position in regard to the vehicle. Medical men stated that it was not in a condition to take people suffering from serious brain and other injuries to the hospital. It had been suggested that Ashford litters should be used. The chairman (Mr. J. McLeod) (aid •«- that quite recently the ambulance vaj thoroughly overhauled, at a cost 0f,£25, from a specification prepared by a, prtc- ■ til coach builder, and he did not know, that they could do anything to make it better. No matter what springs wwi used, there would be a great deal of jolting in any vehicle sent over the present city roads. He pointed out thai the infectious diseases ambulance xvn no better, and that was made in Ens. land, and imported by the Government. Perhaps it would be advisable to obtain| | a couple of Ashf ord litters in eormectiog with the Board's appliances. Mr. Bagnall said that if they wished to have an ambulance which would go easily without jolting with one person, they must have it made to hold enrjj i'■:"■. one patient, becausce if the springs was strong enough for three or four there must be a good deal of jolting if then were only one patient in it. The pie* sent ambulance was, he believed, as good as they could get. for its purposes. Mr. Bruce said that the ambulanea was built to hold four, and the springs ~i were too strong when only one patient was aboard. He did not approve of i' taking patients by the Ashford niters, owing. to the difficulty of progressing up„ tluij have an ambulance which would' la*! only one person. ..' Mr. Casey suggested that a tmhHp;i[. driver should always be sent wift.-jUw|" •'"•' ambulance, and the brake should net be used, as it made the vehicle vihite, v The matter was referred to *t£rt general committee for report.
