A BOGUS BANK BALANCE.
George McDonald, a young, welldressed man, pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning tp having obtained £2 from one Marshall by false pretences, and similarly obtaining £ 1 from Cecil M. Emmanuel. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
The accused's method of raising money was, according to Chief Detective Marsack, to represent that he was a jockey recently in the employ of Sir George Clifford, and that he had £700 in the bank at Christchurch. Being unable to operate from Auckland upon his substantial balance, he obtained advances from Mt Marshall, a trainer, ?r.d Mr Emmanuel, a dentist. ilrDcsaid had no balance, and he was a convicted thief.
The accused, who made no statement, was sentenced to imprisonment for two months on the first charge, and a month in respect to the second, the sentences to be concurrent.
