CABLE INTERRUPTION.

Eastern extension company's lines broken. The.Telegraph Office has been advised, that both the Eastern Extension Company's cables between New Zealand and Australia; have been interrupted, and all work has to be.carried over the Pacific CableVßoard's line. " It is very many/years since a similar interruption took place, "aiid if, as is ,supposed, both lines are broken, the work of- repair may occupy some time, sinco the\ Eastern Extension Company has no, cable repair ship in Australasian waters. ■ The Pacific Cable Board's steamer. Iris is, i however, in port here, and although there is no reciprocity agreement for the use of vessels for repair work between the • rival services, the private company may engage her from the Pacific Gable Board. :^ The Eastern Extension Go's lines-run from Wakapnaka, ih -Tasman Bay, some Bixteeh miles rromNelsohi to La Perous_, a'-cable' station near Sydney Beads. This,line/ is well staffed, and there will be no delay in hahdlinff the work between New Zealand and Australia, ;,.-.'.. Endeavours have been made/to ascertain the cause.of the.interruption, but have been unsuccessful, and so far nothing is known as to /the cause.
