' THE GAUMONT CHRONOPHOKE.

One of the earliest and most natural ideas which occurred to many people .when the cinematograph first made its appearance was that of allying it with the phonograph in such a way as to produce the harmonious combination of word and action upon the screen. Messrs Gaumont and Co. were, however, the first to invent and give a real and complete solution of the problem. Their machine is known as the "Gaumont Gironophone/' and under their system the picture machine and the talking machine can be placed at any distance apart. Electricity is the link which unites the two, and is responsible for the accurate working the both instruments. The device not only assures complete isochronism in ' the working of the phonograph and eineinatograph/but also perfect concordance ; of synchronism.
