The work of estimating the number of those killed in the outlying disttcts is only just beginning, but it t nds to the belief that the destruction was great in the suburbs, as well as Icing much greater in the city. Further details from the Agnew Asylum, near San Jose, 100 miles from ~S*n Francisco, show that 270 of the p itients have perished. | - At Santa Rosa two hundred have been killed and ten thousand are home- * tes. 7 There are many fatalities at Santa Cruz, while five have been killed at .OiHand. 7 Lat*r news shows that 36 besides the asylum patients were at San 3eee, near which place also is situated the Lick Observatory, about which there : fe is yet no .lews.
