MOTORISTS NARROW ESCAPE.

MR LENNOX STRUCK BY DEERSTALKER'S BULLET.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WAIHI, Thursday. An exciting experience occurred the other day to a party of five -who were motoring from Rotorua to Tauranga, via. Te Puke, which nearly resulted in a tragic manner.'- The party consisted of Misses J. S. Lennox, of Auckland, Hume (Wellington), and Messrs. Kusab and Shepherd, of Rotorua, and A. Wrigley (Tauranga). At the time of the incident the motor-car was within eight miles of Tauranga, and was just passing Mr J. Brown's run at a good pace, when Mr Lennox, who was seated in the rear of the car, was struck in the back simultaneously with the crack of a rifle. The car was immediately pulled up, and it was then discovered that Mr Lennox had been struck by a bullet, which passed through tbe car at the back and cut away a portion of Mr Lennox's coat, vest, and shirt, but inflicted no serious damage. Later on it was discovered that the shot was fired by one of a party deer-shooting. The escape, however, was decidedly a lncky one.
