*By Telegraph.—Pres Association^

b , ' , DUNEDINj. Thursday. William Jones WilSains, aged 27 years, was to-day brought up for sentence before his Honor Mr Justice Cooper on several charges of embezzling moneys of the Bank of New Zealand at OphbvtoiaXling £317. In imposing a sentence of 18 months' imprisonment with hard labour on each charge (sentences to ran concurrently), his Honor said: "Continually dining tbe last lour «r five years similar cases to yoms have come before mc, and they have satisfied mc that among' a great many young men there is no desire to avoid temptation. In the first place, a bank clerk has no business to engage in share speculations; in the second case it is morally •wrong for any young man entrusted with the receipt of money to develop a itaste for gambling, and thirdly a young man in your position —I must assume -that you bad sufficient salary to live on reasonably—ought not to indulge in extravagance. These three eaarses, no doubt, have brought you to ysootpresent jrosition."
