Amongst the notices to marinere laid before the Harbour Board this afternoon was one stating that the Invercargill Borough Council, which has control of the New River Harbour, reports that the New River Bar has been undergoing a change, and is now unsafe for shipping at low tide, there being only 9ft of water at low water, ordinary springs. Another notice states that on and after Friday, the 20th April, 1906, fog-signals will be sounded from a position just belo wthe lighthouse on Taiaroa (on the harbour side of it). The signals consist of explosions of cotton-powder charges at . intervals of six minutes, and will be made when the land is likely to be obscured at a distance of about three rnlles from seaward by either fog. mist, falling snow, or continuous rain. It ia anticipated that these sound-signals will be heard at any distance under ten miles" varying acording to the state of the atmosphere and the force and direction of the wind.
