WINE, WOMEN AND SONG.
The Aastral poet, when he sings Of little loves and amorous things, Must needs devote each second line To wm« lond eulojy of wine. *Tis not enough to have the fair Magnificence of eyes and hair, "With snavest curves where dimples curl, A month of coral and of pearl. The bard with all. at his command Mnst clutch, a. bottle in his hand, And rave his ardour over-much With coarage that was erstwhile Dutch. Ts not our native girl divine* Have her fnfi Dps no ruddy wine To stir his sluggard soul to bliss, And make Mm,drunken with a kiss? a Venus helpless to beguile With warm, red brash and witching smile, If swinish Bacchus: there dispense No drug to dull the sweeter sense? I hold, the bard: a sorry scamp Whose light of love's a spirit-lamp, Who Cnptd loads-wfth measures odd, And makes a potboy of a god.
