AUCKLAND CUSTOMS RETURNS
FOR THE FINANCIAL YEAR.
The official Customs" return for the financial year ended . March 31 last, completed by Mr. Alex. Rose, Collector of Customs, show: that the total receipts under all heads were £743,532, which constiutes a record for the port. The amount exceeds that of the previous year by £10,738, a total of £732,794 being then collected. The local revenue (mainly gold duty) totalled £24,915, against £22,420 for the previous year, an increase of £2495; Iniring the past five years there has bean a steady increase in receipts. The Customs receipts for the port of Auckland for the quarter ended March 31 amounted to, f.199,642 0/1, against £188,902 6/11 the previous March quarter, an increase of £10,739 13/2. The general Customs revenue for the quarter totalled £182,438 10/3, as against £173,----820 8/3 for the first quarter of 1905. The excise beer and tobacco duty collected during the quarter totalled £5516 9/8 and £376 8/, respectively, against £5208 1/7 and £336 14/6 for the corresponding three months last year. The fees collected under the Shipping and Seamens Act increased from £3550 6/9 for the 1905 quarter to £3607 3/3. The gold duty collected increased from £6249 11/2 to £4667 18/1, an increase of £1581 13/1.
The -total for the March quarter at Wellington is £201,049 17/11, as against £176,899 11/10 for the corresponding quarter of 1905. The previous record was £196,029 12/10, which figures are shown for the third quarter of last year. The figures for the financial year ending March 31 total £705,642 16/10.
