A BIGAMY CHARGE.
An elderly man named Peter Wilson was this morning arrested by Detectives MacMahon and Fahey on a charge of bigamy, to answer which he will appear to-morrow morning at the Police Court. Wilson has been a resident of Auckland during the greater j>art of the past 30 years, and of late has been engaged in plying a. handcart for hire. The offence- is alleged to have been committed in 1904. It is stated that about 10 months prior to making an illegal venture in matrimony he parted from his lawful wife, and his excuse when arrested was that after being parted so •long he considered himself entitled to marry again. It appears that he took a trip to Sydney with his second spouse shortly after the nuptiafs, and that upon his return his first wife turned up an wanted an explanation. The wife, subsequently, lodged a complaint against him with the police, with the present consequences.
