POLICE COURT.

Alleged Theft of Money.—Dick Green pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the premises of T. M. lane and Sons, stealing a cash box containing £7 in money. Detective Henderson, who prosecuted, called Major William Lano, whose evidence showed, that a boat-building shed in Mechanics* Bay was entered on Sunday, March 25, the hasp of the lock being forced off. A cash box and £ 7 in money was stolen, as well as a postal note for £2 4/4, payment of which had been James Henry Kerr, employed as a watchman at Messrs. Leyland and O'Brien's timber mill, adjoining the "prosecutors' pre raises, said that about one o'clock on March 25 he saw Green come out of Lane's shed with a cash box. Three other men were with him, and he shortly afterwards went away, carrying a keg in a sack. Detective McMahon stated that when examining the premises after the robbery he found a tanned bag and pair of opera glasses inside the front door. Green pleaded not guilty, reserved Vhis defence, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The prisoner was then charged with having broken and entered the premises of Annie Irwin, and stealing a sowing machine, value £12. He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. Drunk and Obstinate.— Patrick Lynch, a sailor who bad been spending the I past three weeks on shore in a beerdrinking spree, was charged as a sec-ond-offender, and also with refusing to leave the United Service Hotel when requested to do so by the manager. Accused admitted haying had a few drinks during the past fortnight, in which time he had managed to get through £7 or £8. He did not remember refusing to quit the United Service. A fine of £3, in default seven days, was inflicted for drunkenness, and 20/ for refusing to quit, in addition to which a prohibition order for 12 months was made against him. Alleged Assault on His Father.—A youth named Wilfred John Speary was charged with having assaulted his father at Newmarket on April 9 so as to cause actual bodily harm. Sub-Inspector Gordon asked for a week's remand, as the father was in the hospital as the result of his son's assault.
