(By Telegraph.—Own. Correspondent.) HA3IILTOK tMs Say. Mr Thomas Ballinger, yvha . died in the Waikato hospital 7 .t0-day,, aged 50, was well known'in the Upper Thames ■Valley. - -He was- .employed by the Assets Board at Tirau for 20 years. A public- meeting was held at Kihikihi last night, at which Mr Greenslade was present.. The meeting was largely attended. It was unanimously decided to petition the Government to revert to the old system of purchasing rabbit skins instead of poisoning. Several set-.: tiers stated that rabbit's had increased so quickly that their turnip crops.had been completely destroyed by the pest, and they had no jEeed for wintering - their cattle. Rabbits would only take poison in the winter time, which was not the "breeding season... It.was therefore practically useless as a check. Mr Greenslade promised to give the matter his heartiest support.
