FIRE AT WHANGAREI.
(By Telegvapli.—O veil Correspondent) : \VHANGAEEI, this day. , .Messrs J. and C. Robertson's stores in Bank-street were the scene of a de-> structive fire, this morning. The break was discovered about 6 p.m.,-when smoke was seen issuing : through '■■theroof, having apparently originated near the accountant's office. All the fittings, there were destroyed. The fire .was prin- : cipally confined to the lining in the rear of the building, which is of ibrick. The flames travelled, along the rafters, t>ut ■ little damage was done to the stock by fire, but water played" havoc with a con-, siderable) Tie building is covered by insurance in the South British: for £500, and the stock by a policy of £17Q0-in the 'Hoyal. The fire ibiigade did smart work, and, with a good pres-; sure of water had the fire under'within; 45 minutes of tile first alarm..' The firm's books were saved;'. ■
