EECITAL AT ST. SEPULCHRE'S,

A performance .of -the cantata, •"The Holy City." was given in St. Sepulchre's* Church last Friday night, iby the choir and sume local artistes, and was a great success. Madame Chambers, Who toek the soprano soil, was iv excellent voice, and .sung her mnsla very well, ■and the other soloists. Mr 11. H. Irving (tenor), Miss Rice (contralto), and Mr C. \E. K'ssling (baritone) gave very creditable renderings of the music allotted to them, Misses White mid Pierce also assisting capably. The choir sang well together, and infused plenty of enthusiasm into their work. Their best efforts were, "They That Sow in Tears," "List to the iChernbSe Host," and the concluding chorus. 'Mr V. Rice, the organist of the church, played the accompaniment very well. The collection was in • aid of the organ water engine fund. MISS LAW'S PUPILS. An "Ac Home." held on Friday afternoon by Miss Alice Law. L.K.A.ru., aud pupils in tiu: Federal Cluu-ruoiu was a most successful function, a good musical programme contributing largely to the enjoyment uf -their visitors. The performers ranged from .small children to young ladies, aud results show that Miss Law is as successful with little ones as with advanced students. Among the latter was one whose performance deserves particular mention —Miss .Elsie Prime, who played ironi memory in a ■most finished style. An attractive feature ot the program mc was the playing (piano and violin.) of some of the pupils from the Wind lns.ilute. Considering the disadvantages these children labour under, their playing is remarkably good. At the conclusion of the programme; afternoon, tea was handed round. MRS E. 11. QUEREE'S PUPILS' CONCERT. The searing accommodation of the Masonic Hall in JTiuces-street was overtaxed on Friday, on the occasion of Mrs _■;. H. Queree's "pupils' recital. Every item •was enthusiastically received, and several encores were insisted upon, the most enHhusiastic reception being accorded to Miss Rene Queree. who was recalled several times for her playing of Chopin's "Ber■veuse" and Meyer's "Etude iv E Flat.-' Miss Ralfe also had a splendid reception for Bier rendering of McDowell's "Serenade," aud was recalled, and the same compli-•m-cnt Was accorded to Misses R. Queree and Ralfe for their duo on two pianos, and Miss Allen's "Vert L'alant" piano solo was also excellently rendered, and the work done by *>ue following pupils met with warm commendation from the audience:—"Danse Rococo." Mrs 11. Phileox: "Rhahpsodle In T> Flat." Miss Buttle: "Mintietto in B Minor," Mis F. Duder: ''Ungarisch in A.". Miss Clarine Fallwell; "Moment Musicale," •Miss Champtaloup. A feature of the recital -was the piano quartettes played by Mrs ■Cooper, Misses Rn!fe. Phihlcox and R. QQueree. Mrs Queree had the assistance of Mrs and Mr M. Harrrirton Hodges, the former singing La-mbert's "Here Let Mc Lie," "I Never Knew.'' and "To Gentle Breeze," and the lntter Hawley's "Molly's Eyes," Greig's "Two Brown Eyes." and 'Ohnminade's "Rltornelle." both bein?warmly encored. Miss M. Aickln (a pnpil of Mrs Hodges) sang very prettily McDowell's gems. "To a Wild Rose" aed "Hunting Song." The whole recital Is regarded as tho best that Mrs Queree has yet given.
