The council of the Australian League of Wheelmen has imposed a fine of £5 each on R. and J. Arn-t for failure to ride in the East Melbourne Club's recent meeting. A motor 'bus service has been inaugurated by the Victorian Government in connection with its suburban, railway scheme. The new llagship Powerful, with Admiral Fawkcs, has arrived at Fremantlc. The West Australian Full Court has decided that betting in cubs is illegal. Mr. Jerome, the newly-elected public prosecutor in New York, denounced the country judges as creatures of Tammany and of the business corporations. The Queen's unemployed fund is attracting to London hundreds of provincial tramps. The attempted assassins of King Alfonso and M. Loubet in June last have been acquitted, the jury having accepted the theory that the outrage was concocted by the Spanish police. " The bounties to encourage French shipping have totalled sixteen millions sterling since 1881, but the proportion of French vessels has fallen at home and colonial ports from 37 per hundred of all nationalities to 18.
