FATAL SEQUEL TO AN ACCIDENT.
A settler named Robert Bell, of Toka Kopuru, in the Rinsrene district, met with a serious accident last week while engaged in hauling logs to the Taheke river with a bullock team. One of the j logs got across the track, ana Bell went Ito move it with the jack. The log fell upon a bunch of green supplejacks grow j ing from a rotten tree y and at that moment the bullocks* started off. The tree was torn down, and fell upon the un I fortunate man, who was picked up in an unconscious condition by two natives who accompanied him. He was taken to Rawene Hospital and never recovered consciousness, death occurring. two days later. As a medical certificate was given to the effect that death 'was lue to pneumonia, an inquest was not held. Bell, who was 25 years of age, and unmarried, leaves a widowed mother and three brothers, who live in Whangarei district.
