THIS DAT. (Before Mr E. W. Dyer, SM.) The Drunkards.—Of the nine drunkards charged, John Hyams, having the ■worst record, was fined £3 with costa or 14 days' imprisonment. Fines of 10/ each with costs were paid by Selina Potts, James Mclntyre, and John S. Hines, while Madeline Carroll was remanded to be kept under medical observation for a week. Two first offenders forfeited fl bail for non-appear-ance, and two cthefe were fined. 5/ each. Chinese Opinion.—Ah Wong, a Chinaman, smilingly pleaded guilty to having left his cart unattended In Greystreet for an unduly long time. When the magistrate fined Him 10/ with 7/ costs he counted out the money in small change, and remarked in very plain English "Lot of money J" Laundry Proprietress Fined.—Mary Ann Glover, represented by Mr Martin, pleaded guilty to having employed two assistants in her laundry on the afternoon of Saturday September 16th, when they should have been given a halfholiday. Mr Martin stated that the Inspector of Factories found the women, in the laundry between 1.15 and i-20 o'clock. One of them was washing her own dress. Mr Ferguson, the inspector of factories, who prosecuted, informed the magistrate that but for one bad feature of the affair he would not have brought Mrs Glover into court. There appeared to be a scout oil the look-out 1 while th* women were working, and ■ they bid when the inspector arrived at I the factory.
