PLATE-GLASS WINDOW SMASHED.
SMASHED. PECULIAR THEFT CASE. ! A middle-aged man named Artfeat Horace Brown, who appeared before Mir R. W. Dyer, S.M., in the Police Com* to-day, admitted that he had smashed 4 plate-glass window in the shop of Messrs Dadley and Son, and stolen • pair of boots value 24/6, his reason being that he wanted to "get even" vnt% the firm. The constable on duty in <Jueea. street during the early hours of Friday morning heard the crash of glass, tjia saw Brown running away from Messrs Dadley and Sons* shop. He caught tha man, took him back to investigate, and found that a hole about 18 inches across had been made in. a corner ot the window. Brown had a pair of hoot* ■ in his possession, and in the Court this morning Charles S. Goldsmith, Messrn Dadley and Sons' foreman, stated thai the boots must have been stolen from the window. To Constable Tait, wba caught him running away irom the shop after the crash, Brown said he broke ths ,v window because the firm owed _ÜB. money, and that was the only tray hay could get even with them. He added v that he intended pawning the hoots, as he was starving. The accused w»fsober.
