THE TOWN HALL.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The town clerk, apparently for public information, publishes a statement of receipts and expenditure on account of the Free Public Library and other objects. From this I gather that some years ago the Oity Council bought a property on which to build a Town Hall, and actually paid £5153 16/ for it. Every matter involving a large expenditure and affecting the progress of our fair city ought to interest the public, and the above mentioned fact is specially interesting just now, seeing that at • its Jast meeting the Council was approached by the vendors of the Philson block, and again invited to purchase it and an adjoining section for a trifle of £16.000! It is time Auckland had a Town Hall, but what is to hinder its being built on the site already bought and paid for? £16,000 would go a good way towards the cost of a good building.—l am, etc., INQUIRER.
