John Goldsmith, the tourist whose ' case attracted considerable attention a i few weeks ago owing to his having been ! arrested on a charge of having; entered j the Waikato Hotel on Sunday morning. I and demanded porridge for breakfast. i was to-day rined £ 1 and costs IS/ for ' resisting arrest, and £ I for damaging tl c constable's clothes. The charge of | I being on licensed premises during pro- j i hibited hours was adjourned, to be | dealt with by c. magistrate, and came on for hearing to-day. The accused, however, who was on bail, wired from j Christehureh that he could not be prei sent. The magistrate commented I strongly on the charges, which he com- • pared to a repeating rifle, in which you i put as many charges as possible into , the magazine. He ordered the accused's bail, amounting to £5, to be I returned.
