STATEMENT BY MR ALISON. At a meeting ox the Auckland 1 ' Harbour Board yesterday a letter was received from Mr fc. W. Alison, M.H.K., with reference to the difference which had arisen over the Auckland Harbour Board and Devonport Empowering Bilfe suggesting that the addition to theclis- | puted clause 3 of the words, "but so that no riparian rights, shall vest in the Council" would meet the case. Reporting on the letter, the ; Finance Committee' recommended .a reply that if the suggested were inserted, the Board would not further oppose the bill. The chairman stated_£hat.the secretary, the Board's solicitor .and Jiimself. had had separate- interyiews-'■with' t Jlr. Alison, who stated that he bail no knowledge whatever that the. amendments objected to, had" been; made, 'in, the bill until the Hon>T. Thonipspn, in charge of the bill, informed him; subsequently of the fact. \Ke then immediately communicated with his Borough Council, and asked the Council's solicitors to ascertain from the Board if they had any objection to the amendments. This statement, .was confirmed" by the Council's solicitors, whom the chairman had also seen on the matter. . ' ''; '■ ; Mr Parr said he was glad the chairman had made this statement, because it totally removed any suspicion*, that Mr Alison had caused the .amendments to be made. »_' ' . Other members spoke in a similar strain, and the recommendation was adopted: ■ . ; ; ; (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.). ■ . this day.* The conference appointed btetween the House of Representatives and the Legis-. lative Council with regard to the Auckland Harbour Board and Devonpprt Bor« ough Council Empowering Bill has come to an agreement after three meetings. Instead of the reinstatement'• of clause 4, which was asked for by the Harbour Board, a compromise has been made by the addition of a- sub-clause to clause 3, which will have the same effect as the reinstatement of clause 4.
