j . , ; The Board of Education met this mornling. Present: Messrs S- Luke (chairman). H. J. Greensiade, A. B. Harris, Edgeeumhe, Stallworthy, McKen^k'. i finance.—The Finance- Committw re ported as follows:—Your committee recommend payment of tho following accounts, which have been duly examined aud initialled: Administration account. Iti voucnlers, £Sr>4o 13/S: manual and technical in- | strnction account. 1 vouchers, £120 11/0: building fund account, 35 Touchers, £71$ •Jl/7. Your committee have examined the treasurer's statement of accounts for the inontJi of August. Your committee bave dealt with correspondence submitted by the troant officer in regard to school attendance at IMriaka and Te Mata. Your committee sribmit correspondence with the ! Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding i the sale of timber on the girls' high school 'endowment property, and recommend that Ino further action be taken iv the matter. In connection with tbeir finances, the i chairman said he had communicated with ] the Minister on the qnestiou of the train- ! ins college, and had been assured that ; £1000 had been put on the Public Works ■ Estimates fop this purpose. With regard to their overdraft; although it was fioniewhat heavy at present, about £7uou. it '.should be remembered that in other places the schools were built before the present : Education Act came in, whereas they had to build their schools. Concerning ihe district high school, he thought it best to leave the matter entirely in the hands? of Mr Hogrben, who would shortly be up from j Wellington to attend to the matter. Special votes of thanks were also accorded to Mr Petri*, Mr .George, and :Mr Rice. With regard to the election of education boards it was resolved, on tbe -motion of Mr Parr, t'nat The Board, as the.result of a perusal of the new Education Bill, expressed its strong objection to the introdduction of the word system." The committee recommended that the Waharou School Committee should be informed that the colonial scale of staff did not admit of nil assistant teacher being appointed at I Technical Education.—The diwctr.r. Mr . Georpe George, reported that exceedingly 1 satisfactory progress was lieing made in the local efforts at W:iikati> u> rais* a fund fur the establishment, with the aid of n Government grant, of a manual training school.—On the motion of Mr Greeneladf it was resolved that so soon as £200 had been raised application should be made for : a grant as wn.s done :it Thames.
