POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. E. W. Dyer, S.M.) The Drunkards.—Fines of 5s each were imposed upon three first offenders, while another forfeited £1 bail. Thomas Hind was fined. £1 with costs, and Emil Davies 10s with cost-. Alleged Robbery with Violence.—Jeremiah Sullivan was charged with having robbed Alfred Henry Watkins of a silver watch and chain and money amounting to £1 4s at Kumru on August 24, using personal violence on that occasion. Sub-Inspector Black mentioned that two other men were to be tried on Monday in connection with the same ease, and he secured Sullivan's remand to the same date. Theft Charge Dismissed. — Tames Roach, who was defended by Mr. J. R. Reed, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having stolen a quantity of clothing, value £ 1 lfe/, the property of William W. Weldale. The prosecutor, who is serving a short sentence of imprisonment, stated that some of the clothing mentioned in the charge was left by him in a whare. and some in charge of the railway authorities at Mount Eden station. In reply to Mr. Reed, he said the bundles alleged to have been stolen contained a number of articles which he had purchased on behaF of the accused and other gumdi?gers at Henderson. After hearing further evidence, His Worship dismissed the case. A Separated Couple.—William Lawrence Sinton, for whom Mr. Skelton appeared, was summoned by his wife to maintain his two children. Mr. J. R Reed called the complainant, who said that she had been married five y oars. Differences arose in 1902, mainly because her husband was lazy. Two years ago she had to leave him, and he h-'d not given her anything to maintain the children since. Mr. Skelton inforned the magistrate that his client was willing to take his wife back, and was anxious at any rale to have the children. His Worship ordered Sir.ton to pay 10/ weekly for the support of his children, and remarked that while the defendant had not shown his wife to be unfitted to have charge of the children, he could take proceedings to secure their custody. Maintenance Orders. —James W. Tee and Thomas John Tee were each ordered to paj- 5/ per week towards the maintenance of their mother. An order for a similar amount was made against George John Latham, and for 2/6 weekly by consent against Arthur W. Latham, in respect to the maintenance of their father. Thomas Breen, convicted of disobeying an order for his father's support, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for a week to give the defendaut an opportunity of paying the arrears.
