PERJURY CHARGE DISMISSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGA\TLLE, th» day. Messrs. A. E. Harding and B. E. Williams, Justices, were occupied in the Police Court here on Wednesday from 10.30 until 1.30 o'clock in the bearing of a charge of perjury against PerciTal Smith, aged 15. The alleged perjuxv consisted of swearhcg that William Winters was eoneerosG with him in a cattle stealing case. The man Winters was discharged by Judge Edwards at the Supreme Court on the ground that it was a ease of trespass and not theft. The Aratapu Justices, in consequence of the Judge's remarks, refused to hear the charge against Smith, who waa accordingly tried at DargavUle. Mr Field prosecuted, and Mr Wakes defended. Considerable interest was taken in the case, and about a dozen witnesses were called. Mr Wakes contended that a statement signed by the aeensed a-hrak-ting his guilt was inadmi=*ble. as it was signed conditionaUy upon a previous warrant being withdrawn.
