Colonel Hume, Inspector of Prisons, left for the South by the Takapuna today. Mr Meddings, Inspector of Telegraphs, returned from his trip to the North last night. A Press Association telegram states that Mr. Fairburn, town clerk of Dunedin, has resigned. Dr. Frengley, District Health Officer, returned to Auckland yesterday by the Ngapuhi from Whangarei. Mr. E, M. Passmore, of Donaghy's Rope Works, Ltd., went to Dunedin yesterday by the Talune. The appointment of Mr. R. L. Kay as a ranger under the Animals Protection Act for Auckland is gazetted. Mr. James Buttle general manager Of the New Zealand Insurance Company, went to New Plymouth yesterday. Mr. Flett, of the Coromandel Post and Telegraph" Office, has been transferred to Auckland, Mr. J. Tanner taking bis place. The Rev. Richards, who arrived from Tauranga to-day. and the Rev. Dewsbury, went South in the West Coast steamer this afternoon. . It is gazetted that Messrs. W. Bowles, M. J. Jack. W. T. Wilson, W. G. D. Evans, and W. Morrison have been elected to act as members of the North Island Railway Board of Appeal. Mr. C. Jennings, of Christchurch, a pupil of the Christchurch School of Physical Culture, is leaving New Zealand for India next week to join Eugene Sandow, the great "strong-man," in his tour of the world. The Rev. Father Heath, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, was a passerkger by the Takapuna, which left Onehunga for New Plymouth and Wellington this afternoon. Mr C. T. Maxwell, Resident Commissioner for Niue, returned from Wellington by the Takapuna this morning. He returns to the island by the schooner Tsabel. Mr Maxwell during his visit to Wellington conferred with Ministers on matters connected with Niue. Mr. J. M. Killen, Mayor of Whangarei, at the annual social of councillors and representative men of the. district, announced his intention to retire from public life. He predicted a bright future for Whangarei on account of its numerous industries, and the natural products of the district. Mr Fred Murray, who is well-known throughout the colony for his prowess in 'sport, and was until he resigned at the close of last season sole selector of the Auckland Rugby representatives, was married to-day at St. Mary's, Parnell, his bride being Miss Dora Whitson, eldest daughter of Mrs T. Whitson, of "Avoca," Manukau-road, Parnell. The members of the Parnell Cricket Club last night made a presentation of a gold watch to Mr Murray, who is the club's captain. Mr R. B. Lusk made hhfc presentation, wishing Mr Murray on behalf of the club all happiness. La3t evening the Rev. S. Griffiths presided over a large gathering of friends in the Birkenhead Methodist schoolroom the T Rev. W. and Mrs Greenslade farewell to Birkenhead, they hay*-' ing been appointed to the Roxburgh district, Southland,by the recent Conference. Addresses were delivered by the Rev. J. W. Gow, of Northcote, and Messrs S. Stone (Northcote), A. M. and Geo. Wilson (Mayfield), Jno. Shepherd, A. 1. White and S. F. Benton (Birkenhead), eulogising the past services of Mr Greenslade, and wishing him and his wife God-speed in his new circuit. Musical items were rendered by Messrs James, B. Twigden, and the choir. During the interval refreshments were handed round. The meeting concluded with the Benediction. A large and representative gathering took place at the Royal Hotel, Thames, last evening, when a presentation was made to Mr. George Price, who, with Mrs. Price, leaves to-day on a trip to England. The ceremony took the form of a social gathering. The Mayor (Mr F. Trembath), on behalf of those present, asked Mr. Price to accept presents of a handsome gold sovereign case for himself and a beautiful gold muff chain for Mrs. Price. In making the presentation, the Mayor said he hoped this token.would, during the travels of Mt. and Mrs. Price, serve to remind them of the many friends they had left at the Thames. The health of Mr. and Mrs. Price Was toasted with musical honours. Mr-, Price suitably responded. Mr. Price, Mrs. Price, and Dr. and Mrs. Aubin left Thames to-day for Auckland, en route to America and England. A large number of friends assembled at the boat to bid them good-bye.
