(B Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. A special meeting of the Waihi Borough Council was held last evening to receive a report by a sub-committee appointed at the last general meeting to report on the financial position of the borough on the statement of works authorised to date. The following Is the report, which deals with important matters in connection with the progress of the borough:— "Your committee annex a schedule showing authorised works to be executed, the cost of which will be about £3825. The position of the bank account Is a debit of £9151 9/7, against which may be placed the amount of gold duty accruing (estimated to be £2000). leaving net debit of £7151 9/7- Abattoirs, £1500, and waterhead works, £1000: It will be a matter of considerable time before these works are completed and paid for; thus the ainovfctt of Immediate commutments may be set down at £1325. The works authorised are: Abattoirs. £1500: head works. £1000; Tauranga-road award, £200; Main-street footpath, tram to Devon-street. £50; Main-street cutting at Pilling's, to complete. £100: Kensington-road footpath, £40; formation of Main-street Company's tram to Martin-street, £350: Victoria-street railway to river, £200: Boundary-road, to complete, £100; Benner's-road. Bulltown, £15; Cuba and Stafford streets, £110; Con-sols-street, £60; Recreation Ground, to complete, £100: total, £3825. At a special meeting of the Council last evening the report of the sub-committee was adopted, after consideiable discussion A record number of cases is set down for hearing to-morrow before Mr Bush. S.M.. at the usual monthly sitting of the Warden's and Magistrate's Court. Including Warden's Court applications and police cases, etc., the list totals 150 eases. The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council has been postponed till Friday. Mr T. Gilmour, the present Mayor of Waihl, announces in this issue that he is n candidate for the forthcoming Mayoral election. Mr C. J. Saunders Is the only other candidate announced. Captlan W. M. Jackson, of No. 3 Volunteer Rifle Corps, tendered his resignation at the parade last evening. MncMauon's Dramatic Company opened here this evening in the Academy of Music for a season of four nights to a large and enthusiastic audience. The pieces taged.
