The bright day. thou-b the sunshine was uncomfortably hot attracted some thousands of people to the regatta, a mixed crowd of pakehas and Maoris from all parts. The river bank was very much like an English fair, with its numerous sideshows and cheap Jacks. The sight the whole" presented was picturesque and memorable to a depree. Tne racing was very good on the whole. All the Auckland rowing clubs were represe-t----ed by crews, and Wnltemntn and West End were very successful, Auckland winning the heavy-weight senior gitrs by a few feet from St. Georee's. The two war canoe races, carrying an accumulated prize money of £100. whs won in both rnses by the canoe Tp W-ainni-o-Tane. rowed by thp Ngati-Rantrimahora crew, both wins being splendidly obtained. Th" Whawhnkln cnnoe, rowed by a <crew from the tribe of that name, was a fine second in each race. The canoe hurdling- and other racps were very interesting. The Hon. Mahnta, M.L.C.. and his Pamily spent the day at Nsraruawahia.
