Mr Speueer Gollan's Grand National candidate Moifaii, who won the race last year under 10.7, has been penalised 191bs for its brilliant victory, being now set to carry 11.12, and to preseDt from 31-bs to 331b3 to everything else engaged in this year's race, bsa ttie King's IBOQ winnet,

Ambush IL, from whom the New Zealand horse is receiving 31bs, and Sir C. Nugent'a fine young 'chaser, Lenister, which Is called upon to present Moifaa with 91bs, and is asked to repeat the record performances of those splendid cross-country pei formera. Cloister ad aMnifesto, both of whom won under 12.7. Moifaa's burden has only been carried to victory twice In the history of the race, viz., by The Colonel in IS7O, ' and by Come Away In IS9I. and a higher weight has oDly been Successfully borne by four horses, to wit, Cloister and Manifesto, and Why Not and CoitolviD, which won in 1867 and 1594 respectively. Mr Gollan's first string will, therefore, be asked "a big question" on Friday, March 31st. His second string. Seahorse IL, has been given 10.7, the identical weight Moilaa ran home under so brilliantly a year ago, and the third Antipodean candidate, Captain Scott' 3 ten-year-old Kioia, is let in with "the feather" of 9.11. Thus far there has been little betting on the big steeplechase, but Moifaa is nominally favourite at 10 to 1, a price which will, 1 fancy, be easily obtainable on the day of the race agaduat Mr Golian's 1904 winner, unless in the interval he gives some glimpses of his "last year's form a thing he has failed to do so far during the present "illegitimate" -season.
