Hie Worship the Mayor and Councillors, Onehunga: Gentlemen, — On the 17th ult., Iα accordance with your instructions, I obtained a samp'c of water from the pump well at youi springs, Onehunga, and have made an analysis of the water, with the result now submitted. ANALYSIS: Temperature when drawn—6odeg. F. Appearance in 2ft tube—Greenish white. Smell when heated to lOOdeg. F.—None. Chlorine In Chlorides —1.50 grains per gallon. Phosphoric Acid in Phosphates—lleavj traces. Nitrogen In Nitrates —.065 grains pel gallon.* Ammonia Free —.0039 grains per gallon. Ammonia Albuminoid —.0032 grains pel gallon. Oxygen absorbed in 4 hours —.014 grains per gallon. Hardness before boiling (Clarke's scale)— 4deg. Hardness after boiling (Clarke's scale)— 2.sdeg. Total Solid Matter at 212deg. F.—12.18 grains per gallon. Microscopical Examination of DepositMinute quantity vegetable debris, diatoms, etc. This Is very pure water, the only exception, which can be taken is in regard to the heavy traces of phosphates; but as the chlorine and ammonia ure both verj low, this Is not a matter for further.remark, especially as I have found the same result in analyses from the adjoining works. Analyses made by mc for youi Borough and reported June 30, 1894, and March, 1903, from the pump well, show* this to be an excellent water of an equable character.
