In connection with the hot weather <*cperienced throughout the colony during the past few days it is fortunate, aa far as Auckland is concerned, that at this juncture . the wind oonciaues steadily frfm the south or south-west, as it tends to keep down the heat. If jiist now the wind was from the north-east the full intensity of the heat would be ftit. At the Museum on Monday at 9.30 o'clock the thermometer in the'shade registered 78, which is tke highest point yet touched this season; but is'not really high as compared : the average summer. Yesterday the re gister showed 74, and to-day at ii o'c]odt was 75. It should be mentioned, however, that at the Museum "in the shade" means ..actually what it expresses, the thermometer being so placed as oot ifi receive even reflected heat from Owt* walls.
