KUROPATKIN'S MOTOR-CAR.
The General and His Ways. General Kuropatkin has acquired a new 20-h.p. motor-car, with which he is enabled to rush at high speed from one place to another along the Russian front, which is twenty-five miles long. M. Ravoir, a motor-car expert, who has reached Chifu from Mukden, states that he spent three weeks with General Kuropatkin, who wished to secure twenty motcr-cars specially constructed to carry ammunition speedily in case of emergency. These cars will only be used in winter, when the Manchurian roads are excellent. The Chinese now regard General Kuropatkin and hi 3 motor-car with superstitious awe, believing the latter to be an atrociously powerful specimen of the "foreign devil/ M. Ravoir said: "General Kuropatkin still lives in a railway ca», and a light is burning in his office day and night. It is commonly stated that the general never sleeps. "Officers are not surprised when they are called to confer with him at any hour of the night. His only relaxation is at dinner, when he entertains officers as guests by the score. ■"Wine is plentiful, but Kuropatkin himself drinks mineral waters."
