MESSRS. HANCOCK & CO.'S PLANT.

A REMARKABLE MACHINE. The specialisation of machinery in various branches of trade is perhaps nowhere more marked than in brewing. A plant for the automatic cleansing of bottles just completed by the Hanc-ock Company is an admirable illustration of the perfect i en to whiili such labour-sav-ing devices have been brought. Our representatives to-day visited the "Imperial" bottling stores belonging to Messrs. Hancock and Co., and ther? saw the machine in operation, the fundamental principles being explained by Mr 13. Schirmer, Wee-president of the Loew MamifacturiTig and Supply Cβ. , of Cleveland, U.S.A. The machine is a tank with three compartments and endlesi link belt chains with pockets attached that carry the bottles slowly through (wo strong alkaline solutions, and lastly through l'rcsh water. These chains are ingoinouKly arranged so that the bottles sro fillH and emptied thTee times, after which they cii-op automatically from the iiiovinsi , pockets into yet anot/her tank, also vcntain/ing fresh -water. The bonify are removed therefrom by men who cleanse the exteriors and place the battles upon high pressure rhmerH, which finally remove all impurities, and assure tfieii- absolute sweetness and purity. By tins means the bottle 3 arc delivered washed in tho same sparkling cleanliness in which they originally earne from the mnnuiactiirerß in. The lilghly-hoated btronj,' bolutions xc-move all foreign-, impuritir.-i. ami tst-eii-lise the the bottle. The machine has a cleansing capacity of 12,000 bottles per day, and la attended by seven men. It speaks well lov the pro<n- es - Bive ways of Messrs. Hafteoek and" d to introduced this miK-hini? ft 3 it is an evidence that they have' determined that their predueta shall rwieh the public in ns dean, i-;west. and fnultlc?s a cojidition as it is possible to have. There can be nu douLl that this niaehine is c-vary wuy inilaitely sirp.-rinr tn the best methods up to nriw nsed in the coi<Mjy of waeJiing by nipans of bru;. ij ttS and fresh water. Mr Moss Davis whilst

in America recently made exhaustive inquiries and investigations into the most thorough and modern methods of cleansing bottles. He is the pioneer user of' ' this class of machine in the Australasian j colonies.
