DROWNING ACCIDENTS.
im i i FOUND ON AN OCEAN BEACH. (By Telegraph. — Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. The body of a man has been washed up at Palliseir Bay. A police constable has been sent to the scene. THE MOTUEKA FATALITY. NELSON, Monday. Further particulars are available of the drowning of Mr W. F. Bettany. 0a Sunday a party of picnickers went from Molueka up the river, and Mr Bettany and a companion tried to cross the river to secure some photographs. A man named Petiha swam across for a canoe, and, hearing Bettany call, was just in time to see him sink, but was unable to save him. Mr J. Pollock, •who was driving near by, was hailed, and he dived in and recovered the body, but efforts to resuscitate were unavailing. The jury commended fhe action of Messrs Petiha and Pollock, Deceased was a chemist, in business at Motueka, and was about to be married.
