"Bis Excellency the Governor and Lady frlunket entertained a number of guests , fct a gardeu party in Government House Rounds this afternoon. To-morrow His Excellency leaves Auckland for a short trout-fishing expedition, and returns on tfriday. On Saturday Kis Excellency will present the certificates to the successful students of the St. John Aumulance Sodety, and the guests, who are specially invited, will be entertained at tea after Hie ceremony. Lady Plunket, when she leaves Auckland, goes to stay with Mr. end Mrs. J. Stmlhofane, of Ruanui, Taihapo, before proceeding to Chri3tchurch, where the Governor has taken a house tor a season. James McGownn, Ministor of Mines and Justice, who has been on a tour of a portion of hi.s constituency, left Auckland to-day by the Rarawa for New Plymouth, and he ?oos down to Wellington. Mr E. K. Bowler and bis wife, of Gore, are paying a visit to Auckland, and on Wednesday to Rotorua, where they will be shown round the district under the guidance of Messrs Cook. Fletcher, who has been transferred from the position of accountant in the National Bank at Dargaville, to a. similar position at Clreymouth, has left the Northern town for the West Const. Mr C- G. Speight, who succeeds him as accountant at Dargaville, took up the ■work last. Monday. Professor Sale, who has hold the chair ol Classics in Otago University with much distinction for a great number of years, arrived in Auckland yesterday by tho Victoria. He is accompanied by Mrs Sale, and they visit the Hot Lakes for a few days. Professor Sale will attend the session of the New Zealand University Senate in Auckland next week. Mr Charles Watt, preacher of tha Church of Christ in.i>;J?onsonby-road, left 'Auckland to-day by the Zealandia for Wellington and Dunedin. He goes to Pahis/tua to conduct a series of lectures and afterwards to Dunedin to attend a special meeting of the different Churches of Christ in the colony. The meeting will be held about a fortnight hence, and is convened to consider a question of closer union with the Baptist Church. Mr Richard Teece, general manager and actuary of the A.M.P. Ivens, who, after spending a number of years at Norfolk Island in the Melanesia.!! Mission, came to Auckland en route for England, has been temporarily in charge of the Anglican Chorea at Coromandel, and has now left that place to resume his voyage Home. During their brief stay in Coromandel Mr and Mrs Ivens have made themselves very popular. They leave AuefedajuL about Monday next, via Wellington and Sydney, for England, where Mr Ivens will lecture for twelve months in aid of the Mission. Mr Lincoln Rees, who (says Wellington "Post") has begun practice in Wellington as barrister and solicitor, will be particularly remembered as defending 1 solicitor for the accused man Black in the notorious Streeter murder trial, ■ when, rafter a change of venue from Gisborne to Auckland, Black was found not guilty. Mr Reca, who wae formerly a partner in the legal firm of Rees Bros., of Gisborne, is the sole Commissioner in New Zealand of the Supreme Court of the Transvaal. Mr Arthur Boolt's Cathelral choir party, which has been holding a series of recitals in the East Coast towns, returned to Auckland on Sunday in the Victoria. They gave a concert on board the boat on Saturday night, and raised about £6 for the Shipwreck Society's funds. Mr Boult and his family are remaining at Napier for a while.
