ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Onehungii Borojjgh Council was held iv thP Council Chiunber last night. There were prc-seut: liis Worship the Mayor (Mr D. A. Sutherland), in the chair, and. Crs. Tok-, Burr, McLeod,. Uishworth, Kowe, Hill, Stoupe, and CoUedge. Spare Stone. —Messrs U. Bray and Co. wrote asking permission to use the spare atom; from their contract in Arthur-street. —The request was referred to the Council In committee to deal with. Condemned Building.—Miss Waylaiid wrote asking that the order for the removal of a condemned building on her property be deferred until February 1. On the Mayor's motion the request was acceded to. Tramway Picnic—Mr P. M. Hansen wrote requesting the Council's permission to suspend the tram service on Good Friday and so permit the tramway employees to unite and hold their annual picnic on that day. On the motion of the Mayor and Councillors liowe the request v \vus unanimous'.y agreed to. Road Jixcavatiou.—Mr T. Bassett WAote objecting to the decision of the Council to cut down the footpath on the west side ot Norman's Hill, opposite his property, as it would greatly inconvenience him. After discussion it was resolved, on the motion ot Crs. liill and Tole, to leave the matter in the hands of the Streets Committee, a conference to be held with the contractor. Town Band.—The secretary of the town band wrote thanking the Couucil for their offer to donate £10 towards the funds, bnt declining to accept the same unless it was given without restrictions. A long discussion ensued, und on the lnoiiqu of Crs. Kishworth and Tole the letter was referred to the Couucil iv committee. More Wages Wanted.—Mr W. Wade, pitman at Mount Smart quarry, wrote complainiug that at 7/ per diem he was the worst paid official employed l>y thp Council, and requested nn increase of salary.— The letter was referred to the Council in committee. Pure Water.—Mr Poud, Government Annlyst, reported having made an exhaustive examination of several samples of water frcuu the Ouehunga spring, which he found to be very pure.—The report was received the Mayor pointing out that it was very satisfactory. • Contract. —The signed contract of W. GrimthH for borough carthig was received and endorsed by the Mayor and Crs. Tole and Colledge. Lease of Section.—Cr. Rowe moved that the resolution granting Ui;n a lease of the section at the rear of the Council Chamber be rescinded so that the application for the same from Mr T. Wills could be considered.—Cr. Hill moved, as an amendment, that the suction be not leased. He understood that if Mr Wills got the lease his intention was to erect a billiard saloon, and he objected, and considered they were quite close enough !to n saloon -already.—After discussion it was resolved to refer the whole matter to the CVuucil in committe?. Road Improvement.—On the motion of Cγ. Howe, it was resolved to cut down the road and form :\ footpath in Virtoria street from Arthur to Church streets. It was nlso ngreed to form a footpath in Captain Sprites road between Willow and Grotto streets. Notice of Motion.—C».
