Saunders, who was injured on tlie mountain on Sunday, is progressing favourably.- He sustained fractures of the jaw and frontal bones, -but will probably be about again in a week or ten day*. CLOSING Of NEW PLYMOUTH EXHIBITION. NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The attendance at the Exhibition j'esterday was well up to the average. In the evening the attendants were entertained at dinner by the executive. Tonight the Exhibition Avill close, when Sir J. G. Ward will be present. Special .trains are bringing many visitors to town.
LABOE CONSIONMENT OF BUTTER. WELI.INOTON, this day. The s.s. Ruapahu, which sails to-day for London, carries 52,592 packages of butter for the English market. FIRE IN AN HOTEL STABLES. STRATFORD, this day. A fire broke out last night in the stabling at the back of the Empire Hotel. With the town's good water supply the brigade were able to save the buildings and prevent the fire spreading to the hotel. MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. STRATFORD, this day. A meeting last night formed a gun club. HOKITIKA, Monday. A young man named Walter Berdina, a flax-cutter, was thrown from his horse last Tuesday, receiving concussion of the brain. He died late last night. MASTERTON, Monday. John Savage, charged with having attempted to set fire to the Empire Hotel, Queen-street, early on the morning of January 5, has been committed for trial.
