RUSSIANS ADVANCE SOUTH.
ATTACK ON NITJ-CHWANG. RAILWAY CUT AND REPAIRED. CHINESE TERRITORY INVADED RAIDERS DEFEATED AND PTTRSTJED. LONDON, January 15. Bodies of i*»»"< »■»» troops have de- ' stroyed the railway between Anshantien and Halhceag (south ot Liao-yane i , and between Yinhow (port of Niu-ehwang) and Taschi- ! chiao. The Japanese repaired the . line immediately. Then two thousand Rossian cat- • airy, -with guns, attached the town - of Niu-chwang on Friday. The Japanese retired, bat on being reinforced expelled the Russians and pursued them. The Russian cavalry invaded Chinese territory in order to approach ' Niu-chwang and other points south ! of I<iao-yang. A report received at Tohio says ' that the Russians attached Niuchwang on Friday, and were repulsed. Some of General Misthcenho's cavalry, 'with twelve guns, also sur- : rounded the Japanese commissariat ! station at Niuchiatun, north of Yinhow, but were repulsed. Their casualties consisted of sixty-two men hilled and ISO wounded. The raiders made a detour to the west of the Liao River, thus enter- i ing Chinese territory, and made a i dash for the railway to intercept the big guns that are being sent to . Idao-yane from Port Arthur. j A Japanese cavalry force fought for four hours on Wednesday to : the west of Tunglopu, a village to the south-west of I<iao-yaag, with four companies of Cossacks, and suffered heavy losses. Subsequently the Japanese were ■ reinforced, and, drawing the Rns- j eians at Idao-ho-pao, engaged them there and defeated and pursued them.
