WAIHI NEWS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent) ~ I «— \ WAIHI, Sunday. The Waihi Grand Junction Company; have given notice to several residence site holders in Dobson and Ry croft streets, on the Waihi Estate, that they intend to resume the ground for mining purposes, but that the owners of the sections in question will be recompensed according to the value of their respeeti'wa properties. 1 understand that th« Junction Company resume the grounds (it being a portion of their property), to sink a shaft and erect a power-house, etc.. thereon. It being on the line of reef, and extensive developments being necessary, the company now exercise the right of resumption. Notwithstanding the matter of compensation I understand that some of the property owners who have made homes for themselves will feel the change very much, and the company's action also goes to pnowa great uncertainty of land titles in a mining community such as Waihi. Negotiations have now been opened up as ta the values of each property, and in the event of no satisfactory agreement being arrived at the adjustment of values must be decided upon by arbitration. At the last Warden's Court a residence site section was granted to an applicant named McLoughlin on the ground of its being an abandoned section, the holder having not complied with the requirements of the law. The new owner has now sold the same section to the Waihi Borrfugh Council for £12, notwithstanding the fact that such sections are granted for residence site purposes only. The usual monthly meeting of the Waihi School Committee was held last night in the school building. Miss Davison wrote tendering her resignation, which was received with regret. In reply to a letter from the committee in connection with the appointment of an assistant teacher for the high school. the Board wrote stating that out of eight applications there were only two who possessed the requisite attainments to teach the subjects required, and that the Board wished to consult the committee upon the proposal for the appointment of one of the two to the position. After a brief discussion it was resolved that the secretary write to the Board to the effect that after due consideration the committee had decided not to accept any of the applications mentioned in the- Board's communication, and to ask that body to make another effort to procure a more efficient teacher and provide temporary assistance meanwhile. It was decided that the chaarman and secretary write to the Minister of Education directing his attention to the desirability of establishing a school in Waihi East. Mr H. T. Torrens wrote from Opotifci tendering his resignation as a member of the committee.
