CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS.

■ i. WINS FOR PABNELL, CITY AND NORTH SHORE. The first round of the district cricket championships was cooctaded on Saturday. Parneil defeated Grafton by 157 runs, thus securing the lead at the end of the first round. CKy defeated Eden handsomely, aad North Shore secured a win over Ponsonby. PARNELL V. GKAFTON. Grafton, wtth a total of 267 to face, had lost two wickets for 10 runs. The next six wickets fell with alarming rapidity, the innings being something in the nature of a procession, eight wickets being down for the poor total of 24. Sloman and Stemsou then became associated, and carried the score to 91 before Stemson lost his wicket. Breese taking a splendid catch. Neither of the batsmen found the bowling dUfirult, which made the faflnre of the rest of the side the harder to account for. The innings closed at 110, Sloman's score being 40 not out. Oliff took five wickets for 44 runs, and N. B. Lusk five for 69. Parneil made 140 for the loss of eight wickets in their second Innings. Ren wick, after Lambert had been bowled, batted freely, and, assisted by Schmoll. carried the score to 116 before Itenwick retired, after making 54 runs. Schmoll made 78 by free cricket before hitting one back to the bowler. The Innings closed at 229. In their second innings Eden made 169 for the loss of three wickets. Shepherd making 81 not out. City won on the first Innings by 102 runs.
